The authors report an unusual case of pseudoaneurysm(huge hematoma) of posterior tibil artery resulting from acupuncture needles. A 54-year-old male been treated by multiple gold acupunctural procedure in the popliteal and calf area for heaviness
and
wondering mass sensation of lower extremity. About 20 days later he was admitted due to the progressive and aggressive calf edema and pain. Plain x-ary film of the lower extremity revealed about 20 fine, slender gold needles, about 1.0 cm in
length, in
the acupuncture sites. It was managed with ligation of the ruptured posterior tibial artery and evacuation of hematoma as a pseudoaneurysm. This case showed a possibility of the iatrogenic vascular injury in the indiscreet acupuncture.
